Persons With Disabilities

There are several benefits available to persons with disabilities under the law in India. Some of them are 1. Free schooling till the age of 18 years in government-run schools is provided under the Right to Education Act, which mandates free and compulsory education for all children between the ages of 6 and 14. Children with disabilities can continue to receive free education in government-run schools till the age of 18 years. 2. Persons with disabilities are eligible for preferential allotment of land for setting up business under the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995. This benefit is provided to encourage entrepreneurship and self-employment among persons with disabilities. 3. The government has made it mandatory for all public buildings to have ramps and other facilities to make them accessible to persons with disabilities. This includes government offices, hospitals, schools, and other public buildings.
