Two types of single phase induction motors are:

Split-phase Induction Motor

(Eb) is the back electromotive force (emf) generated due to the motor’s rotation,
(Ia) is the armature current, which is the current flowing through the motor’s armature winding,
(Ra) is the resistance of the armature winding.
The armature current (Ia) is crucial because it directly influences the torque produced by the motor. The voltage equation balances the applied voltage with the back emf and the voltage drop across the armature resistance due to (Ia).

The rotor is the rotating part of an electric motor or generator. It is typically designed in a cylindrical shape to allow smooth rotation within the stator and to maintain a uniform air gap. This shape helps in minimizing mechanical stresses and allows efficient magnetic flux distribution.
Square, Cubic, Rectangular shapes are not practical for rotors as they would cause mechanical imbalance and higher losses due to uneven air gaps.
Cylindrical rotor ensures better mechanical strength and reduces vibration, improving the efficiency and lifespan of the machine.

A star-delta starter is a type of reduced voltage starter for induction motors. It reduces the starting current of the motor by initially connecting it in a star (Y) configuration and then, after a set period, switching it to a delta (Δ) configuration for normal operation.

Three-phase induction motors are widely used in industries due to their robustness, simplicity, and reliability. One of their key advantages is that they are easy to maintain. These motors do not use brushes or commutators, unlike DC motors, which reduces wear and tear and the need for frequent servicing.
