Brown algae are a group of multicellular algae belonging to the class Phaeophyceae. Examples of brown algae include Laminaria and Ectocarpus. However, Volvox is a green alga (class Chlorophyceae), and Porphyra is a red alga (class Rhodophyceae), making them NOT examples of brown algae.
