Biogeographic Zones

The Himalayan Range is indeed very rich in species diversity. This is primarily due to the fact that it is a confluence of different biogeographical zones. Each of these zones has its unique features, which contribute to the differences in climate conditions. These varying climate conditions, in turn, support a wide variety of plants and animals, leading to high species diversity. While high rainfall, absence of exotic and invasive species, and less human interference can contribute to species diversity, they are not the primary reasons for the high species diversity in the Himalayan Range. Therefore, the most appropriate reason is that the Himalayan Range is a confluence of different biogeographical zones.

To qualify as a biodiversity hotspot, a region must meet two strict criteria - It must have at least 1,500 vascular plants as endemics which is to say, it must have a high percentage of plant life found nowhere else on the planet. A hotspot, in other words, is irreplaceable. - It must have 30% or less of its original natural vegetation. In other words, it must be threatened.

Namdapha National Park is located in Arunachal Pradesh, India, in the eastern Himalayas. Due to its significant elevation range, the park experiences a diverse range of climates. The southern regions have a tropical to subtropical climate, while the higher elevations transition to temperate and even Arctic conditions. 

**Manas National Park (Assam):** Situated on the banks of the Manas River, it encompasses a range of ecosystems including grasslands, tropical evergreen forests, and semi-evergreen forests. **Namdapha National Park (Arunachal Pradesh):** This park boasts diverse vegetation zones, ranging from tropical evergreen forests at lower elevations to sub-alpine meadows at higher altitudes. **Neora Valley National Park (West Bengal):** This park covers a range of elevations with subtropical broadleaf forests at lower levels and temperate forests at higher reaches. **The Valley of Flowers National Park (Uttarakhand):** On the other hand, is situated at a high altitude (3352 to 3658 metres above sea level) and falls entirely within the temperate alpine zone, known for its meadows, low-growing vegetation, and cooler climate.
