Oxyntic or main gastric glands occur in the fundus and corpus. Each gland has at least four distinct types of cells. [a] Chief or peptic cells: They secrete two digestive enzymes pepsinogen and prorennin [b] Oxyntic or parietal cells: These are located upon the surface of the glands and secrete HCl. [c] Mucous neck cells: These secreting alkaline mucus. [d] Argentaffin cells: They presumably secreting either serotonin or gastrin hormone. Goblet cells are found in the mucous membrane of intestinal wall. They are mucus secreting cells.
