Lysosomes were discovered by Christian de Duve from rat liver. Matile discovered lysosomes in plants. Generally lysosomes are in size, irregular membranous vesicles filled with hydrolytic enzymes. They are polymorphic. About enzymes (all hydrolytic) are present in lysosomes. These include proteases, nucleases, glycosidases, lipases, phospholipases, phosphatases and sulfatases.

In an eukaryotic cell DNA is found mainly in nucleus but mitochondria and chloroplasts both also contain a single copy of double stranded, circular DNA molecules. Due to presence of this DNA molecule mitochondria and chloroplasts are also known as semiautonomous organelles.

Ultracentrifugation technique is used in separating proteins from other fractions.
