Canberra, the capital city of Australia, was planned by Walter Burley Griffin. Griffin was an American architect and landscape architect who, in partnership with his wife Marion Mahony Griffin, developed the original design for Canberra. Their design was selected as the winner of an international competition held in 1911 to create a new capital city for Australia. Griffin's plan was notable for its use of the natural landscape, integration with surrounding environments, and innovative urban design, setting the foundation for the modern city of Canberra.
