ADH or antidiuretic hormone (vasopressin) causes diabetes insipidus. It increases the blood pressure by contracting blood vessels, so it is called vasopressin. Low secretion of ADH causes diluted urine and low blood pressure. In diabetes insipidus a huge amount of urine diluted) is excreted. Goitre is common in hilly areas and is caused due to iodine deficiency in the food or the low level of thyroxin secretion. The thyroid gland becomes enlarge and causes a collar like front swelling in the neck, called goitre. Tetany is a disorder of parathyroid gland. This is caused by low blood level of ionized calcium. Acromegaly is caused by growth hormone. In this, long bone growth is no longer possible in adults, only the feet, hand and face (particularly the chin, nose and eyebrow ridges) can respond, and these portions of the body become overly large.

The mammalian kidney is a compact mass of ten to twelve lacs (in man) of extremly fine and coiled tube like excretory tubules called uriniferous tubles or nephrons.
