In pitcher plant {Nepenthes) the leaf lamina forms a pitcher like structure. The upper or apical portion of leaf forms the lid of pitcher and the flat basal part is the leaf base, the petiole modifies into thin wiry coiled tendril like structure which held the pitcher vertically. When some insect enters the pitcher it is trapped and digested by the juice present inside it
