Cryptochromes are blue light absorbing pigment and are photoreceptors. Cryptochromes have flavin adenine dinucleotide that gives them the ability to absorb blue light. When they absorb light, FAD undergoes photochemical reaction that result in the conformational changes within the protein. These make them functional for the biological processes.
