Prominent Religious Cities in India
India has numerous cities of great religious significance. Four of the most prominent religious cities are:
1. Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh):
One of the oldest living cities in the world, it is the most sacred city for Hindus, located on the banks of the River Ganga.
2. Amritsar (Punjab):
The spiritual center for Sikhism, it is home to the Harmandir Sahib, also known as the Golden Temple.
3. Ajmer (Rajasthan):
A major center for Islamic pilgrimage in India, famous for the shrine of the Sufi saint Moinuddin Chishti (Ajmer Sharif Dargah).
4. Bodh Gaya (Bihar):
The most sacred pilgrimage site for Buddhists, as it is the place where Gautama Buddha is said to have attained Enlightenment under the Bodhi tree.
