Homo erectus (upright man or straight man) lived from the end of Pliocene epoch to the later Pleistocene about 1.3 to 1.8 million years ago. The species originated in Africa and spread as far as India, China and Java. It walked erect over long legs, height 1.5-1.79 mt, brain size (cranial capacity) prognathus face with prominent brow ridges, no chinn, massive jaws and larger teeth. Use of tools made up of bones and stones, fire, acheulean hand axes and some primitive type of speech had developed.

The primitive atmosphere of Earth was devoid of oxygen gas. In primitive atmosphere, hydrogen atoms were most numerous and most reactive. They combined with all available oxygen atoms and formed water, which is very important for life.
