Parts Of The Digestive System

Stomach is the site of digestion mainly for proteins and fats. The proteins are very complex organic molecules having amino acids as monomer units. They contain carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen and less commonly sulphur, phosphorus, iodine and iron.

The principal of carbohydrate in diet is starch i.e., the carbohydrates, ingested in the diet, are hydrolyzed by the enzyme called -amylase. This enzyme is found in saliva and intestinal juice. Its main function is to break down glycosidic bonds between glucose units.
