The Inflorescence

Umbel inflorescence is found in Coriandrum sativum. In this type of inflorescence flowers appear to develop from a common point and pedicellate. A group of bracts are involucre, which is always associated with the umbel and each flower arises from the axis of bract. In Coriandrum, compound umbel is present, in this the branches of the inflorescence grow from the tip of the peduncle and each bear the flower arranged in the form of umbel.
In Helianthus annuus, capitulum or head inflorescence is present. In this, the floral axis is flattened like a disc, bear sessile flowers called florets crowded over the surface of disc. Florets are of two types
Ray florets peripheral and unisexual or neuter.
Disc florets Central they are usually bisexual. In Colocasia, the type of inflorescence is spadix, which is modified spike with a fleshy axis having both male and female flowers, which are sessile. Female flowers are borne at the base and male flower above the entire inflorescence is covered by a coloured bract called spathe
In Musa (banana), type of in flosescence present is mixed spadix. Spadix with cymose inflorescence arranged acropetally in a fleshy axis.

An elongated peduncle bearing sessile flowers in an acropetal manner is called spike type of inflorescence.
It belongs to simple racemose inflorescence in which the peduncle is unbranched.
