Significance Of Mitosis

The two chromatids of a chromosome are attached to each other by a narrow area called centromere or primary constriction.

Mitosis is the process of cell division that results in two identical daughter cells. During anaphase, the chromatids (which were previously joined together at the centromere) are separated and pulled to opposite poles of the cell by the spindle fibers. This ensures that each daughter cell will receive an identical set of chromosomes. Thus, the process that occurs during anaphase is the separation of chromatids to opposite poles of the cell.
